Walking into the Gittori vineyard and looking around, it would be logical to think that these vines, this land, would be incapable of not producing a great Sangiovese. The Gran Selezione is a result of this observation, and from a desire to thank this plot of Chianti land for its gift, giving its name to a wine that will travel the world, carrying a message of power and finesse. Sangiovese from Gittori unites strength and depth of flavour thanks to tannins that are always fine and dynamic. But there’s more: the Gittori wine, from an aromatic perspective, has always stood out a mile in the winery, so why not identify it to those lucky people who will be opening a bottle of it?
In 2019, Riecine, after years of managing the Gittori vineyard, became its owner, and the idea of dedicating part of this plot to a Gran Selezione in Riecine style took shape, thanks also to a vintage that happened to be perfect in every way. The grapes are selected in the vineyard and in the winery before being destemmed and fermented in Nomblot unlined concrete tanks. After 25 days of maceration the wine is decanted into 500-litre barrels that are over four years old. It stays here for 24 months before being bottled. The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Gittori is then aged for another six months in the bottle before being released.
