A wine that showcases the importance of Sangiovese while maintaining intact its elegance. This label has been around since 1975, and its style has remained unchanged over time. The aromatic refinement of the variety is accompanied – never overwhelmed – by oak of the highest level, all exalted by vinifications of careful length. This wine has always held its head up high, waving the flag for Chianti Classico and its wines even during the periods when Sangiovese was not in fashion.
Riecine’s Riserva uses a selection of the best grapes destined for Chianti Classico. After selecting the grapes in the vineyard and on the vibrating table, fermentation takes place in a Nomblot unlined concrete tank. The must is kept at a controlled temperature, in part by using dry ice, for the first four to five days, before spontaneous fermentation starts. At the end it is kept on the
skins, with a submerged cap, for another ten days, before being drawn off and transferred to a single large untoasted oak Grenier cask. The Chianti Classico Riserva spends 22 months in here, before returning to unlined concrete for tartaric stabilization and natural fining. Following the stabilization period, the wine is bottled and then aged for another 3 months in the bottle before being released on the market.
